Expect some regular 'Community Chat' posts from me, as I aim to delve into the minds of the fantastic handlers who play here (either bravery or stupidity on my part, this). Also, feel free to post some yourself if there are any topics you're curious to discuss with the handlers here.
This particular topic focuses on an increasingly relevant question: Is Twitter good for the game or bad for the game?
I'd love to hear reasons why people think Twitter is GOOD for the game. I'd also love to hear reasons why people think Twitter is BAD for the game.
Is it both? What is being abused on Twitter? What is being utilised wonderfully on Twitter? What's the problem with it? Is there a problem with it?
What are your thoughts and/or feelings on this subject?
Twitter is a god damn cancer to this hobby. I hate it and I just cannot stand it. Yeah it’s a good form of advertisement for an efed I will admit that, but other than that. I just find it pointless. There is no creativity to it, and I just don’t see a purpose to it especially when it comes to an efed. Want to build a feud, hook up with somebody and start a CD’s series. That’s what I find entertaining. If more people cared about efeds over twitter lives, this entire eW world would be so much better.
Like once, I was just scrolling through and found two people tweeting about a date they were on at that very moment and where communicating between each other through tweets while on a date. All I could think about was like really put down the phones and just talk. It just seem so pointless and stupid. Makes no sense, yes I don’t care for realism, but come on. I’m having the spaghetti, and I think I will have soup. You are both fucking retarded, haha.
I wish more people would focus on the feds they were in, then on twitter. Would also give all those stupid twitter bullies a smaller playground to act tough behind a screen.
I wish twitter would go away, and forum communities would just return.
There are benefits to Twitter. Especially for advertising and networking. I've met some great people on there, people who I've then wanted to work with in some capacity. I certainly wouldn't be here if not for Twitter.
But there are many downsides, too. The trolls, bullies and idiots are aplenty, and many would be only too happy to start a crusade against either a player or a fed. As we have all recently experienced - some more than others.
The use of Twitter with e-Feds always amazed me. When I came back and got into UWF, I was totally unaware of how the community was interconnected via Twitter. In fact, I remember looking for an e-Fed out of pure boredom, stumbling across the fed I would ultimately join, and then discovering their Twitter feed down the line. I thought to myself, “Wow, the hobby has definitely evolved.”
But there are downsides to that evolution, obviously; most people know what I am referring to. Social media is something I’ve never been a huge fan of since I axed my own personal Facebook page way back in 2010. I just didn’t like the personal exposure, the chit chat bullshit and the drama that played out for a live audience. I’m sure Zuckerberg thinks he’s a genius, and he is, because he created a fucking monster in terms of technology and innovation. But he definitely contributes to the deterioration of society in terms of how people communicate effectively; it only seems that social media breeds the type of thought process that coincides with selfishness. This is particularly evident within the e-Fed community, too.
At the very core of Twitter is a tool that is simply invaluable. It’s the tool that allows you to network and connect with people who may not know you, those who do know you, and that offers the ability to establish or strengthen relationships. There is a reason why every worthy company utilizes Twitter – social media is simply the go-to for marketing these days.
And that’s no exception for e-Feds. I imagine it started out as a way to communicate, to connect and to share content. But just like in regular personal use, it has become a cesspool for fucking garbage to be spewed out there and people eat it up like a fat kid with a giant bowl of sugary cereal. Why? People love drama, that’s why.
Therefore, I’d agree that it’s sad that people experience e-Feds over Twitter and have the writing ability of a sixth grader. Maybe they’re more interested in the fake social connections that they create. I couldn’t tell you.
But I’ve found it useful for one thing: getting my writing in front of eyes. That’s all I care about and that is the only reason I am adamant about showing my writing via Twitter. It can spawn potential buyers down the road for my first novel. So, in a way, you could say that I’m like everyone else; I am selfish, but at least I have an ulterior motive and a reason besides being a giant tool on the internet all day.
Twitter is good and bad. The good side is it helps everybody to stay connected and see what new feds are popping up and it also gets people to get connected and start stuff over Twitter. It can further storylines and it also adds a bit of realism to E-Fedding.
The bad side is of course is the bullying, the spam, the dumbasses, and the trolls.

Either way, it's personal preference.
This. When used right, it's awesome. This is demonstrated by the fact that even feds, fed-heads and handlers who say they hate it will still use (often better) a feds built-in social media simulation if its presented. The problem isn't Twitter, the problem is the Twitter E-fed Community.
I have an anti-Twitter agenda that I don't want to push, so rather than spew a diatribe here tearing it down, I'll pick up on some points with more questions:
Networking and Promoting. Can't e-fed communities do that? Places like RoughKut, like eWplanet, like The Shark Tank, like EWZine for example; can't we see a resurgence in those places to network? Use Twitter to promote them and then actually give 100% of your activity to the community site?
Building feuds. What's wrong with the fed forum to do that?
Those communities are either dying, dead or entirely gone. So no, they can't cover that facet. And even if they did, they're not comparable in scale. They're only purpose, in my experience, was to mop up people who don't use Twitter at all. For me personally, we gained far, far more from Twitter than all of those boards combined.
Feud wise, Twitter is more practical. It's easier to use whilst not at home, too. The app means I can quickly and easily sent some tweets whilst making a cup of tea at work or whatever. And, further, outsiders may also look into the feud/fed. Forums, whilst important, just don't do that.
I'm not going to beat about the bush here - I HATE Twitter. I think that it's full of people who play this game for all the wrongs reasons. Sure it's not all of them, but most. People who create characters to live vicariously through, hook up virtually and talk about the most pointless aspects of their day. A while ago I took one of my characters to Twitter and within an hour I had 3 private messages asking me where I was taking my character and if I wanted to get into a relationship with said character - I soon took her back offline. I think building feuds is better done through general role-plays, timelines (If there), and match role-plays - those are the ones I get most drawn into.
There's also far too many people on Twitter who aren't even a member of any fed?! I don't get that. Some of those are just out to cause drama and trouble. I avoid it unless absolutely necessary.
I know that's just my opinion though. everyone's different.
