Personality Overview: Van was highly scouted as a defensive end out of high school in Florida. His senior year he was caught in school showing his friends a video of him having sex with another girl in his graduating class. Once he was suspended character issues were looked at and his scholarships were all dropped. His mother and father eventually divorced and the only offer left was in Tennessee. Being a fan of country music and knowing that there’s always a party in Nashville – Van took the scholarship offer from Tennessee Tech. In college he was suspended on multiple occasions for failed drug tests, but due to his abilities he was never dismissed from the team. His senior year Van was caught on cell phone camera footage doing cocaine in a bathroom with paid women of the night. A football booster came forward and admitted that he paid for everything and Van was finally dismissed from the football team. Upon his dismissal the college investigated the football team and found Coach Smith guilty of consistently covering up Van’s NCAA infractions. On his last real opportunity to make it doing something physical Van used his high profile connections to become a professional wrestler
Why they’d be cheered: He’s attractive and women may cheer for him once he removes his shirt. Others may cheer for Van because he’s athletically exciting – even though his knowledge of professional wrestling is limited.
Why they’d be booed: Van has been handed everything from an opportunity to go to college for free because of football, to a free car and apartment by boosters. He flaunts these things and let’s everyone know that he’s superior to them in a way.
Reasons to Compete:
- Stepping Stone: Your character sees wrestling as a gateway to bigger and better things for them within their career, such as acting or modelling; something else within the public eye.
- Glory: Your character is all about winning and cannot stand to lose. It sends them into a rage. They have to be the very best and they’ll stop at nothing – for better or worse – to achieve that.
- Financial Gain: Your character wants to be rich beyond their wildest dreams and sees wrestling (coupled with endorsements and celebrity status) as a means to achieve that.
Attitude towards Teamwork:
- The Clique Member: Your character will team with a select few whom they have bonds with. Outside of that small circle, they’d be considered anti-social, but within their group, they’re loyal.
Tendency to Cheat:
- Often
Theme Music: ‘Let’s Go’ – Yelawolf
Valet/Manager: Coach Smith
Valet/Manager Picture Base: Ed Marinaro as Coach Marty Daniels
Valet/Manager Purpose: Coach Smith is at ringside to provide guidance, and if the opportunity to cheat presents itself he will help Van. Van’s enfractions got Coach Smith fired and he’s latched himself to Van to make sure he succeeds.
Wrestling Experience: Zero
Wrestling Style:
- The Sports Entertainer: Relies on their charisma and showmanship to mask their limited wrestling ability. They can fight, but not to the level of some of their skilled peers.
- The Hoss: Relies on brute strength and size to dominate their opponent. They don’t have much talent in terms of wrestling skill, but they’re powerful and can still hurt you.
In-Ring Attitude: Van’s attitude inside the ring is nothing but ruthless aggression. He tries to mask his lack of knowledge and experience in professional wrestling by violently pushing the pace. He will stop to show off and let the crowd admire his work.
Tendency to End Fights:
- Outwrestle: Beats the opponent using their preferred wrestling style.
- Outlast: Uses their superb conditioning to wait for the opponent to tire, before ending the fight on their terms.
In-Ring Strengths:
- Trained Athlete: after nearly a decade of pre-seasons for football camps Van has turned himself into a finely tuned athlete using both his power and speed
- Ability to React: In football you have to react on a split second, and as dumb as Van may seem his instincts do kick in during competition. He’s very aware of his surroundings
- Wreckless: Simply put, he has no regard for the safety of his body. If you think he might do it, he’s going to at least try
In-Ring Weaknesses:
- Experience: He hasn’t been in professional wrestling long enough to know everything
- Anger Management: Easily frustrated when things are going wrong
- Hates Authority: One of Van’s infractions during his collegiate career was a confrontation with a referee. In the heat of the moment, he doesn’t do well with being ridiculed
